Description: Reproduction artwork is of an egg tempera painting printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper of a view of southwest landscape and river under a big sky
Inspiration: Sometimes the medium itself is the inspiration for a painting. This painting is made using egg tempera. It is a painting method used by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The process consists of hand mixing pure minerals with egg yolk, vinegar and distilled water; similar to a fresco. It requires time and a slow layered experience. This medium allows the mind and hand to work together creating serendipitous moments. Here the paint strokes guide the work. The painting is revealed as it is made. The paint is absorbed onto a clay panel which creates both transparent and opaque surfaces.
Egg Tempera: Egg tempera painting is a historical form of painting dating back to the 1st and 2nd century and uses brilliant pigments from the earth. Because of these fine grainy pigments, the print will show a luminous, colorful grainy quality. Egg tempera paints have a tendency to pool, puddle, and spread in magical ways. Egg tempera paints are translucent, allowing the viewer to witness the full effect of the details in the paint pigment. Enlarged prints will exhibit high quality details of these pigments.
