Boat on the Pamlico

A small boat rests within the broad quiet of Pamlico Sound, held between open water and a changing sky. The scene is spacious without feeling empty. Wind, weather, and distance seem to move gently beneath its stillness.

I was drawn to the boat as a quiet point of balance within the open landscape. The water narrows toward the horizon while the warmth of sunset gathers above it, leaving the vessel suspended between movement and rest.

In the original drawing, I worked with chalk pastel on pastel ground. Layered pigment and softened edges preserve the powdery, tactile character of the medium while allowing the light to remain gentle and atmospheric.

With its open composition and quiet coastal palette, Boat on the Pamlico can bring calm and a contemplative sense of space to a home, office, retreat, or hospitality setting.
